Facts about Crown-of Thorn Starfish:
The Crown-of-Thorn Starfish are a type of starfish that eats living coral.
It has been a major issue on the Great Barrier Reef and other Pacific reefs for nearly 40 years!

They eat coral reefs from the Red Sea, Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. The Crown-of-Thorns is the second largest sea star in the world. The Crown-of-Thorns can grow from the size of a grain of sand to the size of a dinner plate. Large Crown-of-Thorns can grow to be the size of a school bus tire.

What is a Bottlenose Dolphin?
Bottlenose dolphins are actually small whales, and belong to a group called "toothed whales". They are air breathing mammals so they still must come to the surface to breathe through the blowhole on top of their heads. Their shape and colour is depending on where they are found. Dolphins have a dark grey back and a light grey belly. It helps them camouflage when predators (such as killer whales or sharks) look up from the deep, the light grey belly blends in with bright surface waters. When seen from above, the grey back blends in with the deep dark waters below.
Where do they live?
Bottlenose Dolphins are commonly found in temperate and tropical seas all over the world. Bottlenose dolphins can be found in all of Western Australia's marine parks. Bottlenose dolphins eat about 15 kilograms of food per day. They eat a wide variety of fish, squid and octopuses.

Their Threats:
Bottlenose Dolphin's natural threats are killer whales and sharks such as tiger sharks and dusky sharks. Other risks include entanglement in fishing nets (trawling, drift and gill nets).

Bottlenose dolphins are very social animals that live together in a group called pods. Inshore pods may have around 12 dolphins and offshore pods may have the about in the hundreds.

It's great to be a KOALA!!!

A koala is a type of bear. They like eating juicy gum leaves and sleeping during daytime. The koala got it's name from an ancient Aboriginal word meaning "no drink" because it receives over 9 percent of it's hydration from the gum leaves that it eats. Koalas only drink water when they are ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves. A koala is a mammal, which can only survive on a diet of juicy gum leaves.

Habitat:

Koalas are found in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. Koalas live in societies, like humans, so they need to be able to contact with other koalas. In Australia there are over 600 types of eucalyptus, but koalas only eat up to 40-50 different types.

It is great to be a kookaburra- Kookubarras are a type of bird. They are part of the Kingfiser family. They eat insects, mice, and other small rodents, lizards, the young of other birds and even snakes! Kookaburras have adapted well to humans, they find wires and good places to perch to look for their natural food. They will also watch out and fly down for scraps of meat being thrown away at picnics and barbeques.

The capital city of Turkey is Ankara in the middle East. It is the second largest city in Turkey. 1,870,831 are men and 1,892,760 are women!


Ankara is built on a steep rocky hill. It has a harsh dry climate with cold snowy winters and hot summers. The city has a population over 4 million people. It was also known as Angora. Lots of Turkish people can make lots of pretty and complicated carpets.

It's great to be a tiger!!!!

There are 6 types of tigers. They are Indonesian Tiger, Seberian or Amur Tiger-The largest type of the tiger subspecies, males can be as long as a station wagon! These tigers also have the palest orange coat and the fewest stripes.

Bengal or the Indian Tiger-This is the most common subspecies of the tiger. Malan Tiger-This is the subspecies of San Diego Zoo.

South China Tiger-In the 1950's the Chinese government orded to be destroyed because they were veiwed as pests. Today, there are less than 30 South China Tigers left in the wild!

Sumatran Tiger-Evan though the Sumatran Tiger is the smallest tiger subspecies, it is still a very big cat and is the size of a school cafeteria table!

Tigers can be quite aggressive when annoyed. Usually it would take a week or 2 to heel from a tigers attack! Tigers can live over 20 to 25 years. Very few tigers live to 30.
